Hannah's Story: NZ Champion & World Record Holder

Writer: Ruby CookeRuby Cooke

I found Ruby at a time where I was frustrated with having to work out the best nutrition plan for myself as a competitive powerlifter.  I had goals that I wanted to achieve, but with the internet providing too much conflicting information about what I should be eating, when, and how much, I had no idea where to start.  I decided to find a nutritionist who could take the reins, and help me eat for performance in my sport.

Ruby was amazing, contacted me almost immediately when I submitted an enquiry online, and arranged an initial consultation to help me get on my way.  She understood my sport, and when I highlighted that I was wanting to train to break a world record, she knew what that meant in terms of effort, sacrifice, and how she could support me.  We have been working together for nearly two years now, and in that time I’ve been NZ National Champion twice, started competing internationally, have broken multiple national records, and most recently, three world records.  Ruby has helped me to work around my allergies, stay in my weight class, build muscle mass, and has fuelled me properly to bring my best self to the platform.  Throughout this journey she’s also improved my relationship with food, and increased my understanding of how best to fuel myself.

Ruby is more than a nutritionist for me.  She’s supported me through stress, loss, and grief. She’s been a sounding board, my cheerleader, and she’s believed in me when I forgot to believe in myself.  She’s even looked after me at some of my competitions - knowing when to sit with me quietly, and when to pull me out of my shell.  I don’t believe I would’ve achieved the same level of success that I have managed in this time frame without Ruby - she has helped me achieve the insane goals I’ve set for myself , and is onboard whenever I bring a new insane goal to the table!

I would absolutely recommend Ruby to anyone who is looking for help with their nutrition - her empathy and kindness mean that you always feel like you’re in safe hands, she truly wants you to succeed whatever your goal might be, and she makes herself available to help whenever you need it.
